Simon (OL 1975-82) joined the amateur company Shakespeare at The George in Huntingdon in 2011, playing Angelo in Measure for Measure, I have since played Macduff in Macbeth and Antonio in The Merchant of Venice (which won the regional NODA award for best production). This year, he plays Pericles, which will be his first lead role for them in the summer production. He puts his love of Shakespeare down to his English Master, Ian Whybrow, with a bit of a boost from Sid McMinn, as Simon played Sir Toby Belch in the 1981 School production of Twelfth Night.

Although an amateur company, it is a big part of the Huntingdon community and also part of the RSC Open Stages project, so the group have had various training sessions with the RSC, including a day of vocal coaching last Saturday with their top vocal coach, Michael Corbridge.

To quote their website, "Since 1959, Shakespeare at The George has entertained tens of thousands of people with its acclaimed open-air productions of Shakespeare’s plays, held in the courtyard of The George Hotel in Huntingdon.  The atmospheric Jacobean courtyard provides an evocative setting, much like audiences would have experienced in Shakespeare’s time."  The company have Dame Norma Major as their patron, and she and Sir John are usually at every production.  They will perform to over 2,400 people, over 11 nights.
