The scratch prize was won by Peter Hines with a gross 77. Paul Harris secured second place with a very commendable 84. Unfortunately Paul’s back nine let him down. (How many times does that happen to us golfers?) In the Stableford competition, the Paines Campbell Jug was won by Roger Montague with 36 points. John Hines came second with 34 points. The Longest drive was won by Peter Hines and nearest the pin by Keith Wilson. The organiser came a very good last having lost at least six balls in the process. Twenty-one OLs turned out, which was good considering there were several regulars missing and, although it was a bit damp, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Most of those on the later starting times got a little wet but the course was in great condition and everyone seemed to be extremely satisfied with the standard of lunch. A new member Fraser Glass joined us this year and had a memorable "walk down memory lane" as it were. In his youth Fraser had played at Stanmore, the club where his father had been Captain and President. Fraser was welcomed by us all and we look forward to seeing him again at future OL golf days. We have reserved Friday the 26th September 2008 for next year's autumn meeting. Paul Montague |
