The Battle of Azincourt – Old Lyonians Archery Section does it again! PDF Print E-mail
25 October 1415 … the Battle of Azincourt (historically known as Agincourt)… Henry V is King of England. Having marched with his army from St Adresse (via Crécy) and arriving, exhausted, to do battle …

19 October 2007 …Those of us associated with schools felt rather like we were getting ready for battle at the end of a long half-term – except tonight was going to be fun!

The Old Lyonian Sports & Social Club (Archery Section) held its annual celebration of one of the most famous battles in English archery history. Bernie created a fun shoot, recycling copious plastic milk bottles as the ‘enemy’ (recyclists please take note!). Almost 30 archers (many in mediaeval costume) enjoyed the challenge - and then there was hot food, a raffle and the presentation of prizes to follow. There is a Beginners’ Course running at present and they had a break from their training to ‘have a go’ at the Fun Shoot. They have obviously been taking note as they managed to ‘shoot down’ most of the targets.

Well done to Phil, Libby and Tim for winning best Male, Female and Junior Archer respectively.

Thanks were forwarded to Bernie for a wonderfully thought-out shoot, Jane and Libby for the food and, as always, to everyone who turned out and made the evening a huge success.

Please note that we aim to celebrate other events too: the Saints’ Days, Hallowe’en, Bonfire Night … and others. Any Club Member who wishes to run an event will find other Club Members willing to assist.
