A ‘Thirty Years On’ Reunion was held on the Red House Lawn on Thursday 22 May; about 60 Old Lyonians, guests and former teachers attended. Tours of the School in small groups were given by teachers Mr Brian Holgate, Mr Roger French, Mr Lindsay Irvine, Mr Ray Cobb; Head Boy Andrew Watters, and his two Deputies, Faisal Islam and Gilbert Leaman. Deputy Head Mr David Rimmer welcomed the guests, and spoke about the modern School. Drinks and canapés were served on the lawn and there was musical entertainment given by tenor James Kirley, accompanied by Director of Music Miss Anna Wilby on piano, and a boys’ ensemble. Former staff members, Mr Rodney Mearns, Mr John Neal with his wife Gillian, Mr David Philpott and his wife Judy, and Mrs Connie Baron with her husband Jack (OL 1947) were also present. One OL wrote: “It was fascinating to see how the School has developed and yet reassuring to know that some things have stayed the same. The highlight for me was to see the Red House where I spent my first year – a poignant moment that brought back a flood of memories. My particular thanks go to Andrew Watters who led our guided tour with such assurance and who listened patiently to the rambling reminiscences of the Old Boys.” |
