OL Golf Society Autumn Meeting 26 September 2008 PDF Print E-mail
Commiserations to all those unlucky enough to miss out at Stanmore. What a wonderful day we all had! The course, which had been prepared for the Club's Autumn Meeting, was in great condition and the sun shone from a clear blue sky.

The old boys' chaplain, the Rev Hugh Wikner, was unfortunately unable to play - for the first time in living memory. However, he acted as our official unpaid starter and referee, and we all got off to a very efficient start - which by the way also had to be the first time ever!

Needless to say, Peter Hines won "Mikes Mug" with a gross score of 77; Paul Harris was runner up. Richard Jackman won the "Campbell Paines" jug with 36 Stableford points; Robin Barris was runner up. Richard also won the 'longest drive' and Roger Montague won 'nearest the pin'.

After lunch Hugh entertained us with a short quiz on the rules of golf. John Curtis surprised even himself by being the ultimate winner.

This year we welcomed as first timers David Selby, a new young OL, Brian Holgate (everyone knows Brian) and Paul Baker, Roger's brother. We hope they will all join us again in the future.

I would like to thank all those who were kind enough to send their apologies for non-attendance and hope that they will be able to join us again in 2009. I have booked Stanmore once more for the last Friday in September 2009, which is the 25th.
