Old Lyonian Association Annual Dinner 2007 - report & photos PDF Print E-mail

One hundred and eighty-four Old Lyonians from all over the world and their guests gathered at the Shepherd Churchill Hall at Harrow School on Friday 30 March for this increasingly popular annual event. This was a record number of diners for many a year, proving the effectiveness of the hard work carried out by the Old Lyonian Association office over the year in re-establishing contact with many OLs.

The honour of senior OL present on the night went to Mr Frank Barnard (Head of School in 1933) whilst this year’s Head Boy (Sameer Jethwa) and Deputy (Nicholas Hallam) were also present as guests of the Association.

After an excellent meal, the assembly was addressed by four speakers, all of whom were both informative and entertaining.

Old Lyonian President Mike Christelow introduced the speakers: Sanjay Kohli (JLS 1983-90) proposed the toast to the School. He brought back memories of his time at JLS and how this had prepared him for life in the business world.

In response, the Deputy Headmaster, David Rimmer, spoke of the School’s achievements over the past year and the planned developments which would see the School continue to go from strength to strength.

"A highly successful evening" - Mike Christelow, OLA President

Mike Christelow then outlined the great progress made by the Association. The database has risen from 1,200 to over 5,000 and we are now in a position to make a far greater input into the life of the School, as well as keeping in contact with old friends. His thanks went to Adielah Mia-Gardiner in the Old Lyonian office for her hard work in developing our numbers, as well as organising a highly successful evening.

Fred Woolley, formerly President of the Old Harrovian Association Football Club, provided a marvellously amusing finale. Fred asked that, in lieu of a fee, a donation should be made to the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children: £725 was collected.

Further revelries continued into the early hours at the OLA premises at Pinner View.
