Commemorating a Biology Pioneer PDF Print E-mail

ImageThree Old Lyonians participated in an event to commemorate the tricentennial anniversary of the birth of Carl Linnaeus – the father of modern biological classification systems. The joint event, hosted by The John Lyon and Harrow Schools’ Biology Departments, included a lecture to Sixth Formers and a group of invited guests, followed by a dinner. The excellent, thought-provoking lecture was delivered by Dr Patricia Fara, Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, and an expert on the history of science. The guests included OLs Dr Geoff Ridgway and Dr Mandeep Sagoo, as well as a more recent school-leaver, Yousif Salmasi, who has  started medical school. All three have previously taken part in meetings of the JLS Medical Society, which often has OLs as guest speakers.

Thanks go to Dr Pradeep Luther - father of OL Vishal Luther, who is now in his fifth year at UCH Medical School - for the photograph.
