Zaki Sarraf (OL) shares his fascinating career journey.

We welcomed back Zaki Sarraf who left John Lyon 7 years ago to talk to the Sixth Form as part of their Goldhawk Lecture Series which takes place on a weekly basis. Formerly known as Union to those who have left in recent years, this provides an insight into the variety of careers that go beyond the standard curriculum of the Sixth Form. This also helps prepare them for when they progress into university and learning how to take away the most important aspects of the lecture.

Zaki spoke about his career as a death penalty caseworker where he works to fight for the victims of extreme human rights abuse in the Middle East and ensures they are not falsely accused of breaking the law. Whilst working for Reprieve, Zaki is also a reporter for an award-winning online magazine on law and justice and explains how deaths of asylum seekers, immigrants and victims of trafficking could have been avoided had there been support from legal bodies.

We thank Zaki for his intuitive talk and we hope this will inspire those in the Sixth Form who plan to do Law, Politics and PPE to think about the emotional impact it has on someone when there is a lack of support from governing bodies.

If you would like to come back, share your careery story and/ or become a mentor for our pupils, please contact me at lyonianassociation@johnlyon.org.
