The President, Mr Joe Kerridge; the Head of John Lyon, Miss Katherine Haynes and the Chairman of Governors, Mr Giles Goodfellow were joined by Old Lyonians and former Masters for a St George’s Day Supper.

Old Lyonians and guests gathered from 6.30pm in the late afternoon sunshine, catching up with old friends, enjoying the facilities of the bar before being seated. The Reverend Hugh Wikner, Honorary Chaplain of the Old Lyonian Association gave the grace, and the President welcomed his guests.

Guests of the President included the Head Boy, Jash Gandhi and his Deputies Atif Fasil, Mehul Gorasia and Jack McCabe along with Tyler Stanley Owusu, Senior Prefect who have all supported the Lyonian Office in events throughout this academic year. Mr Adam Jones and Mr Adam Ling were recognised for their support of OL sporting activities, particularly football and cricket.

As is traditional at the dinner Old Lyonians no longer with us are remembered by name followed by a minute’s silence. This year included the news of the passing of Mr Michael Bogdanov (OL 1951-58), world renowned theatre director and founder of The English Shakespeare Company and Mr Doug Snoad (OL 1942-48) a regular at the dinners, who sadly passed away just two days before this year’s event.

Miss Katherine Haynes gave the Toast to the Association, including an update on School activities and Mr Joe Kerridge proposed the Response to the School, which included a presentation to Mrs Michelle Gascoine who leaves the role of Alumni Relations Manager, in the summer, after six years in post.

It has become a tradition for a table quiz which always results in some taxing of the brain, a rousing rendition of “Forty Years on” rounded off the formal part of the evening leaving guests to enjoy a fully stocked bar and catch up with friends and make new acquaintances.
