John Lyon Evensong in St Paul's

While the sun beat down on one of the hottest days of the year, the School’s Motet Choir headed into the City for a John Lyon Evensong in St Paul’s Cathedral.

As the mercury tipped 30 degrees Celsius on Monday 25th June, the vast, cool Cathedral in the heart of London proved the perfect place to be as more than 40 pupils and staff made the journey down the Metropolitan Line to be the guest choir at St Paul’s service of Choral Evensong.

Conducted by Director of Music Mr Huw Jones and accompanied on the Cathedral’s Grand Organ by Mr Andrew Furniss, the Choir sang to a congregation of more than 500 people in the popular daily service, which was also attended by three members of the Cathedral Chapter, including the Dean.

Music included the popular canticles in D minor by Walmisley and the anthem Cantate Domino by Italian Baroque composer Giuseppe Pitoni.

Before the service, Old Lyonians and members of the John Lyon community were given a personal tour of the Cathedral by its Director of Music Andrew Carwood (OL 1976-1983).

We thank all parents and members of the School community who supported the choir at the John Lyon Evensong.
