Freezing nights under canvas, baking days in a hot sun. Getting lost. Inedible camping-stove food. Little sleep. Getting lost again. No mobile coverage. Thankful sighting of the minibus home. These are the usual reports of DofE award expeditions.
But also grit, determination and, somehow, despite the above, a lot of fun.
Following the death of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, the DofE charity is calling for memories of DofE:
"To celebrate The Duke’s inspiring impact on generations of young people, we’re asking anyone who’s been in the DofE across the decades to help us build a powerful collection of your DofE stories, and inspire the next generation of young people to begin their DofE journey."
If you would like to contribute a comment, memory, anecdote or similar you can do so on the DofE website (https://www.dofe.org/memories ) but we would also love to hear the untold stories (perhaps not all of them!), from teachers as well as pupils! Please send them to lyonianassociation@johnlyon.org
For trip down memory lane, we have unearthed a few DofE photos from Lyonian magazines, see gallery attached.
